Tunable effective masses of magneto-excitons in two-dimensional materials

Andrey Chaves, and F. M. Peeters

Condensed Matter Theory Group

Our research is focused on the theoretical investigation of different phenomena in condensed matter physics at a range of scales: nanomaterials and nanodevices, superconductivity, spintronics, plasmonics and soft matter. For that, we employ several approaches, such as Density Functional Theory to calculate band structures of new materials, tight-binding models to describe the transport of nanodevices, analytical methods as well as numerical approaches such as the split operator technique to investigate time-dependent effects, as well as molecular dynamics to study defects in nanomaterials and vortex dynamics in superconductors.
